Project — access gates

Bi-parting sliding gates.

Replacing a slow and unreliable 12-metre gate with a faster, smoother system for a busy industrial site.

The challenge

An ageing gate affecting site access

The client’s single 12-metre sliding gate had become slow and unreliable after years of service. Frequent truck access had damaged the track, the gate had developed a slight bow following an earlier impact, and the long unsupported span could cause it to wobble while moving.

  • Damaged track from frequent heavy-vehicle access
  • A slight bow in the gate following an earlier impact
  • Gate movement and wobble caused by the long span
  • Worn drive wheels and guide rollers
  • Intermittent failures that stopped the gate operating

The solution

A new bi-parting gate system

After reviewing the site and comparing the available options, Highway Electrical recommended replacing the single gate with a new bi-parting arrangement. The installation included two new gate sections, a new track and guide rollers, and a new A-frame to support the second half of the gate.

After installation

Faster, smoother and more reliable access

  • The new gates opened and closed much faster
  • The previous gate wobble was eliminated
  • Gate movement became noticeably smoother
  • Site staff and contractors no longer waited more than a minute for the gate to open
  • Gate faults dropped to zero following the installation
